My True Crime Story is a series where you, the readers, can write what happened to you and share it with the world in your own words. No crime is too big or too small, the case can be open or closed, all that matters is that there is a connection and you’re willing to talk about it.
So, how do you get involved?
If you or someone you know have a true crime story that you wish to get out into the world, whether to just share what happened or to draw attention to an unsolved case, type it up and send it to me. You can email me at thebulletinboardblog@gmail.com and put “My True Crime Story” in the subject.
I do have a couple of rules in regard to these stories.
- All submissions must be made to me by email. This allows you to send me the story as well as all images that you would like to have included in the post. If you DM me your story, I will redirect you to the above email address.
- Please let me know how you would like to be credited. At the top of each post I will be acknowledging you as the writer so please let me know your name and any social media stuff you’d like to have attached.
- It may take me a little while to reply to your original email. I try to be on top of my emails as much as possible but I do have a personal life that sometimes takes up more of my attention. If you haven’t heard back from me within 48 hours, tweet me or DM me to let me know that you’ve sent in your story. DO NOT passively-aggressively tweet about sending me an email and getting no reply. I don’t play those games. Be patient and I will reply.
- Be nice. By that I mean if you have sent me an email about your story and it’s not going up as quickly as you want it to, you do not have the right to harass me about putting things up quicker. Posts take time to edit and to format and I cannot guarantee that the week that you send me your story that it will be up. I will still be posting other cases that take up my time as well. I am happy to share your story but I will not if you’re going to push me and harass me.
- All stories need to have a personal connection to you or the person that you are writing in for. By that I mean, this is not a chance for you to write in about your hometown murders. This is a chance for people who have been impacted by crime, by either being the victim, the perpetrator or being related to one or the other to write in.
- If you want to talk about your hometown cases, I would love to hear about them and maybe even feature them in their own post but this is not the place for that.
- Naming suspects and just outright accusing them is an instant no. I understand that cases can get people agitated, especially when they involve someone that you know but unfounded accusations can lead to people's lives being impacted. If they are a part of the story, you can change their name or use their initials but publicly saying that they killed someone could lead to legal problems for both myself and the person who wrote the story.
- If you have changed any of the names of people involved in the story, please let me know either in the email or in the document so I can note that in the post.
- Anything that is just an essay about why a suspect is the one to have committed the crimes will not be published. Everyone has a right to their opinion but as stated in the above rule, unfounded accusations can lead to legal trouble.
More rules may be added to this as time progresses, so please be aware of that.
Please don’t feel as if this is just a chance for people with solved cases to talk about what happened to themselves or the person they know. This is also a chance for you to talk about an unsolved or closed case and help bring attention to it.
I look forward to hearing from you!
